Dottie's July Favourites...

Hey guys, so for this week's posts, the girls and I have decided to start off with something nice and simple, a favourites post. Since I don't play video games, I decided to change that one to makeup and skincare, so there we are...

Films/TV Shows
This month, I finished watching all of the Gilmore Girls episodes that are currently on Netflix, including the Netflix original 'Year in the Life' mini-series. It's something super easy to put on as background noise, or to just binge watch. Gotta love American sit-coms.

Music
I've been super into both Paolo Nutini and Passenger this month! Look at Passenger's Night Vision Binoculars and New Shoes by Mr Nutini. Love those!

Purchases
I've actually not bought loads this month! But, I did buy some Barry M nail paints, including the Speedy Quick Dry in the shade 'Pit Stop' which actually matches the walls where I work, but I love it nonetheless!

Makeup/Skincare/Bath Products
If you know me, or read my personal blog, you'll know how much I adore Lush products. I think that it's great that the brand is doing their best to reduce plastic waste, and they use all natural products. So, my favourite beauty related for July is Fun from Lush. It's a bubble bath/body wash/shampoo in a play-dough consistency, and it's super great! It makes brilliant bubbles, and when used as a shampoo it leaves my hair brilliantly soft and shiny. Unfortunately I've used it all up so I can't take a photo!

Memory
My favourite memory for July has to be being on holiday with my family and boyfriend. It was something I'd been looking forward to for months, and I really enjoyed having a break from everyday life. Read more about my holiday over here on my personal blog!

Achievement
It's rather sad, but I'd say my biggest achievement was going back to work last weekend. It was rather weird to be back after having almost three weeks off, but by the Sunday I was back in the swing of things and feeling pretty okay with it all!

Something I'm proud of
I went to a book event this week with author Matt Haig, and I went by myself despite feeling really anxious. I enjoyed myself too, so that made it all the better! Read my review of Reasons to Stay Alive here

Something I've learnt
I have learnt that even the best of us will feel as though they're stuck in a rut sometimes, and that during these times, it's best to just take care of yourself - you're doing your best and that's all anyone can ask of you.

Quote
"Three in the morning is never the time to sort out your life" - Matt Haig, Reasons to Stay Alive.

How To Stop Time - Matt Haig (BOOK REVIEW)

"Tom Hazard has a dangerous secret. He may look like an ordinary 41-year-old, but owing to a rare genetic condition, he's been alive for centuries. From Elizabethan England to Jazz-Age Paris, from New York to the South Seas, Tom has seen a lot, and now craves an ordinary life." How to Stop Time is a captivating novel, with a heartwarming (and heart-wrenching) story. It follows love, loss, and so, so much more. It moves at breakneck speed through different times and places, but its quite easy to follow, with a truly brilliant storyline. Unlike Haig's real-llife book, Reasons to Stay Alive (read my thoughts on that one by clicking here ), this is a completely fictional story - but it does draw from the author's real experiences. When speaking about character Tom Hazard's condition, and him being over 400 years old, Haig said that when he was suffering with depression, he felt like he was 400 years old, because the illness had a funny way of making each day s...

Half Bad By Sally Green- Book Review By Emma

Nathan Byrne is Half Bad.  He's half White Witch....half Black Witch. His mother was a healer....his father is a killer. He's wanted by no one....but hunted by everyone. Source: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/07/a0/fc/07a0fc57e50023f0952fb308c58b8902.jpg A few years ago I decided to buy 'Half Wild,' a book which I first saw on a poster in my secondary school's library. I never forgot about it so when I saw it on the shelf in Waterstones I couldn't resist spending my money on it. However, that is the second book in the trilogy. If you recall back to my July Favourites  post you may remember that I mentioned buying some books in Llandudno, and one of those books was 'Half Bad,' the first book in the trilogy. I was so excited to read this book. The blurb intrigued me and the book cover is beautiful. The first few chapters were straight to the point, no explanation and rather confusing. But that was the beauty of it. I wondered 'w...

Turtles All The Way Down - John Green (BOOK REVIEW)

*Caution - This post may contain spoilers* "Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to persue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there's a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett's son, Davis.  Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living in the ever-tightening spiral of her thoughts."  'Turtles All The Way Down' is written in a brutally honest way, but I believe it is something that needed to be written. The way that John Green has written in the voice of character Aza is brilliant, he doesn't hold back or glamorise what it is like to live within one's mind. The story winds and twists and while it is predictable in some places, I can say that the ending is someth...
