Monthly Favourites- July (Victoria)

Hello,
Each month, we are each hoping to do a ‘Monthly Favourites’ post, and so as we are drawing near to the beginning of August, the following are some of my favourite things that I have experienced in July:

Films/TV Shows:
‘The Boy in Striped Pyjamas’ is about a young boy called Bruno who, after moving near a concentration camp due to his father’s work promotion, befriends a Jewish boy from inside the camp. Films that are based on true-events always hit me the hardest, and despite rarely crying at films, from mid-way onwards I was sobbing and my heart
ached knowing that 11 million people were killed in these concentration camps. Despite being upsetting, I think it’s important to watch things like this as it is educational, informative and deserves to be addressed.

Music:
As somebody who adores musicals (and is
finally beginning to move on from the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ live-action soundtrack), my love has turned to ‘The Addams Family’ musical after seeing a behind-the-scenes rehearsal from those doing the UK tour.

Purchases:
I purchased a Canon 60D film camera, for producing a film/photography portfolio that I can present to universities that I apply for. I generally adore creating short films and developing new ideas, so I felt purchasing a film camera would help give me somewhere to put these ideas and utilize my creativity, as well as also helping me to discover my own style of filming.

Video-Game:
Earlier this month, I bought the game ‘Far Cry 4’ after enjoying the previous game in the series and have so far been playing for over 40 hours which I think speaks for itself. It is a first-person shooter/open world, set in the Himalayan Mountains and following the story of Ajay Ghale who becomes a member of a rebellion group called ‘The Golden Path’ which his father once led to fight against the King, Pagan Min (and perhaps now one of my favourite villains).

Eating/Drinking:
Despite being vegetarian, I often have days where I go completely vegan and through this, I have discovered my love for ‘Nakd- Cashew Cookie’ bars. Nakd snack bars only use a few natural ingredients (for example, this one literally only contains cashew nuts and dates!), with absolutely nothing else added. They can however be a little pricey for what you get, and so I tend to save them as a treat.

Self-Reflection:

A Memory:
A few weeks ago, the three of us and our friend Jade went to a little independent café and for a walk in the forest after finally being able to find a time where we were all unoccupied. I was so genuinely happy to see all of us in one place, laughing and getting on so well despite it having been so long. In addition, we went to a local music festival and just by soaking in the atmosphere and music, I found it helped my stresses were eased for a little while.

An Achievement:
Earlier in the month, I managed to pass my driving test with only 5 minors which has now provided a whole new lease of freedom into my life.

Something I am proud of:
I am becoming more confident every day, and in every aspect. Particularly through work, I have found that I am becoming much more of a natural leader and often find myself stepping up when somebody is needed to lead and make decisions, which I feel will benefit for if I choose to join the Army as an Officer.

Something I’ve learnt:
Treat yourself as you would to a friend...if you wouldn't do or say something to your friend, don't say or do it to yourself. You are absolutely breath-taking the way you are, and do not need validation from anyone.

Something to take with me:
Despite feeling as though I am progressing into a self-assured person, I need to sometimes take a breath and not let myself run when I am only just getting to my feet. Most importantly, I’ve found that it is important to not let other people influence me to stray me away from being humble and selfless...negative attitudes are easily picked up and I have to remember not to get swept away with it.

Quote of the Day:
The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart

July Favourites with Emma

Hello! It's often nice to reflect back on the month so here are my July favourites: Tv Show This month I caught up on all the Game of Thrones seasons. A fantastic fantasy-drama series with twists at every turn. If you like epicness then this is for you. I love fantasy anyway and this was exactly what I wanted. I will not say anymore so not to spoil it! Music I have re-sparked my love for JLS , a British boy-band who were X Factor runner-ups in 2008. They can sing, they can dance and they have upbeat, feel-good songs. What more could you want? It is a shame they split a few years ago! I understand they may not be everyone's cup of tea these days but when listening to them I felt nostalgic and have now bought their 'Goodbye' album which is amazing. I have to mention my favourite songs on the album called 'Take a chance on me,' 'Everybody in Love,' and 'One Shot.' Purchases At the beginning of the month I went to Beddgerlert ( click on th...

How To Stop Time - Matt Haig (BOOK REVIEW)

"Tom Hazard has a dangerous secret. He may look like an ordinary 41-year-old, but owing to a rare genetic condition, he's been alive for centuries. From Elizabethan England to Jazz-Age Paris, from New York to the South Seas, Tom has seen a lot, and now craves an ordinary life." How to Stop Time is a captivating novel, with a heartwarming (and heart-wrenching) story. It follows love, loss, and so, so much more. It moves at breakneck speed through different times and places, but its quite easy to follow, with a truly brilliant storyline. Unlike Haig's real-llife book, Reasons to Stay Alive (read my thoughts on that one by clicking here ), this is a completely fictional story - but it does draw from the author's real experiences. When speaking about character Tom Hazard's condition, and him being over 400 years old, Haig said that when he was suffering with depression, he felt like he was 400 years old, because the illness had a funny way of making each day s...

Half Bad By Sally Green- Book Review By Emma

Nathan Byrne is Half Bad.  He's half White Witch....half Black Witch. His mother was a healer....his father is a killer. He's wanted by no one....but hunted by everyone. Source: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/07/a0/fc/07a0fc57e50023f0952fb308c58b8902.jpg A few years ago I decided to buy 'Half Wild,' a book which I first saw on a poster in my secondary school's library. I never forgot about it so when I saw it on the shelf in Waterstones I couldn't resist spending my money on it. However, that is the second book in the trilogy. If you recall back to my July Favourites  post you may remember that I mentioned buying some books in Llandudno, and one of those books was 'Half Bad,' the first book in the trilogy. I was so excited to read this book. The blurb intrigued me and the book cover is beautiful. The first few chapters were straight to the point, no explanation and rather confusing. But that was the beauty of it. I wondered 'w...
